| Quote from Website |
"Every day, our planet is endangered by actions that damage the earth for future generations. I'm proud of the work that I've done in Congress to address many of the problems identified by Ocean Champions, chiefly climate change and establishing a national oceans policy. We have a responsibility to be good stewards of the earth, and I take that responsibility very seriously." |

Leadership: Congressman Schiff sees global warming and ocean acidification not as “imminent crises,” but rather as already present and in need of decisive action. As a result, he is a steadfast supporter of clean energy development, most recently passing an amendment to restore funding to a cutting edge program that brings clean tech innovators into the Department of Energy to catalyze America’s sustainable energy future.
Congressman Schiff also supports efforts to manage our oceans and fisheries in a sustainable manner. He fought efforts to block development of innovative and effective “catch share” programs that align fishery economic incentives with conservation goals. All fish do better with less plastic in the ocean, and Congressman Schiff is a cosponsor of the Marine Debris Act as well. He also has opposed efforts to defund the National Ocean Policy, which creates a framework for interagency coordination on ocean activities.
Since his first election in 2000, Congressman Schiff has developed a strong track record of leadership and support for ocean issues, and we’re excited to endorse him as an ocean champion.
