Leadership: Born and raised on the Olympic Peninsula, Representative Kilmer has been recognized for committing much of his career to helping improve jobs, education and environmental health in his homeland. He is the three-time recipient of the Washington Economic Development Association’s LEADER of the Year Award, and was named a “Legislative Business Star” by Enterprise Washington’s Business Institute in 2008. The accomplishments that led to these awards were anchored by a fundamental belief that it is possible to balance priorities to ensure a strong economy and a healthy environment. Representative Kilmer recently authored a jobs bill that created thousands of jobs, with many focused on storm water cleanup and Puget Sound restoration. He also cosponsored legislation supporting the development of Marine Management Plans for state coastal waters, as this thoughtful approach which will protect ocean health while enabling ocean industries to grow.
