“Senator Lautenberg’s BEACH Act requires tough new water quality standards for our nation’s beaches and strengthens the public’s right to know about water problems in beach areas.”

Leadership Senator Lautenberg’s support of the oceans is both practical and far-reaching. He has written laws to protect citizens, beaches and shores from the hazards of sewage and oil spills, introduced legislation calling for safer oil tankers and supports coastal estuary and coral reef protection.  Among others, he is the author of S. 173 (Federal Ocean Acidification Research And Monitoring Act of 2009 or” FOARAM Act’), S. 878 (Clean Coastal Environment and Public Health Act of 2009) and S. 685 (Oil Spill Prevention Act of 2009).  He has cosponsored a variety of legislation that seeks to prevent offshore oil drilling, promote renewable energy, and protect delicate coastal ecosystems.
