Leadership Sen. Lautenberg’s support of the oceans is both practical and far-reaching. He has written laws to protect citizens, beaches and shores from the hazards of sewage and oil spills, introduced legislation calling for safer oil tankers and supports Coastal Estuary and coral reef protection.  Among others, he is the author of S. 173 (Federal Ocean Acidification Research And Monitoring Act of 2009 or” FOARAM Act’), S. 878 (Clean Coastal Environment and Public Health Act of 2009) and S. 685 (Oil Spill Prevention Act of 2009).  He has cosponsored S. 215 (Big Oil Bailout Prevention Trust Fund Act of 2011), S. 940 (Close the Big Oil Tax Loopholes Act of 2011), S. 926 (COAST Anti-Driling Act of 2011), S. 783 (Clean Ocean and Safe Tourism Anti-Drilling Act of 2009), S. 575 (Clean, Low-Emission, Affordable, New Transportation Efficiency Act of 2009) and S. 170 (Coastal and Estuarine Land Protection Act of 2009).

Senator Lautenberg recently sponsored S. 1582 (Clean Coastal Environment and Public Health Act of 2011) and cosponsored S 1266 (Delaware River Basin Conservation Act of 2011).
