Leadership: Rep. Pallone has played a key role in some of the most important oceans legislation of the last ten years. In the 111th Congress, he sponsored H.R. 2093 (Clean Coastal Environment and Public Health Act of 2009) which passed the House on July 29, 2009. On May 6th, 2010, Rep. Pallone introduced a ban on any new offshore oil drilling in U.S. waters (H.R. 5248: No New Drilling Act of 2010) Rep. Pallone has also sponsored H.R. 1696 (COAST Anti-Drilling Act of 2010) and H.R. 1310 (Clean Water Protection Act of 2010). Mid-April of 2010, Rep. Pallone joined with others in the New Jersey delegation to author a letter to Interior Secretary Salazar opposing the Administration's decision to expand offshore oil drilling. The letter instead calls for developing clean offshore solutions such as wind and wave energy. Most recently, he sponsored H.R. 6119 (Safe Dispersants Act of 2010) in response to harmful dispersants being used for clean-up in the Gulf of Mexico. Rep. Pallone has also been active in the 112th Congress, sponsoring H.R. 261 (No New Drilling Act of 2011), and H.R. 594 (Coastal Job Creation Act of 2011).
