Quote from Website “The House Republicans are using their leadership here to stymie efforts to even research and document climate change, let alone totally deny that it’s a problem. Time and time again, they voted to know nothing, do nothing about climate change,” said Rep. DeFazio. “It’s time to listen to the scientists and get serious about climate change. The evidence is in. The only question now is whether Congress will listen and act.”

Leadership: In July of 2013, Peter was elected Ranking Member of the House Natural Resources Committee. As a long-time member of the committee and its leading Democrat, Peter has fought to improve the economies of Oregon’s rural communities through the development of renewable resources on federal lands, while ensuring that forestry practices improve forest health, prevent catastrophic fires, and protect irreplaceable old growth. He has achieved many major accomplishments in preserving Oregon’s natural resources including a log export ban from federal lands, an improved public forest management program, and various projects to ensure continued protection of Oregon’s natural treasures. Peter is serious about climate change, reducing dependence on foreign oil and other fossil fuels, and creating jobs by creating a new energy economy. He believes in firmly cracking down on GHG emissions and supports legislation that forces polluters to clean up or pay up. He is a member of the Puget Sound Recovery Caucus with Heck, Kilmer, and DelBene, as well as various other environmental caucuses. Additionally, he is on the Subcommittee on Fisheries, Wildlife, Oceans & Insular Affairs, and the Subcommittee on Water & Power.
