Leadership: As a member of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, Congresswoman Bonamici is a strong advocate for renewable energy technology. Her views are driven not only by the desire to protect our environment from pollution, but also by the opportunity she sees to grow the economy through new industries and new jobs. The Congresswoman sees great potential in for clean energy generation in Oregon’s First Congressional District, which boasts natural solar, wind and wave resources. To help develop clean technology, Bonamici advocates redirecting oil and gas subsidies toward alternative energy.
Congresswoman Bonamici is also working to clean up our oceans by fighting marine debris. She cosponsored the recently passed House Marine Debris Act, and is seeking emergency funding to help Oregon cope with garbage that has begun washing up from the Japanese Tsunami.
