With the recent natural disasters and tragedies our nation has faced the past few months, I found myself taking longer and longer beach walks seeking comfort and solace along the ocean’s shore. So, you can imagine how my spirits were buoyed with good news from Capitol Hill about our oceans. I am happy to share with you that ocean policy is continuing to move forward on Capitol Hill with bipartisan support. In August I shared the news of the Save Our Seas Act/marine debris bill moving. This week, the new Harmful Algal Bloom and Hypoxia Research and Control Act, S.1057, is making progress. Last week, it passed the Senate with bipartisan support. A similar bill will soon be introduced in the House by Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici. Stay tuned, as we’ll be asking you to help garner support in the House for this bill very soon.
It is exactly for this reason that we support Congresswoman Bonamici’s reelection. I hope you can join Ocean Champions October 11th for the next New Wave Ocean Leaders Series event supporting this strong ocean leader and champion in the House. Here’s why we’re asking you to support her reelection campaign:
