Leadership: Born and raised on the Olympic Peninsula, Representative Kilmer has been recognized for committing much of his career to helping improve jobs, education and environmental health in his homeland.  He is the three-time recipient of the Washington Economic Development Association’s LEADER of the Year Award, and was named a “Legislative Business Star” by Enterprise Washington’s Business Institute in 2008.  The accomplishments that led to these awards were anchored by a fundamental belief that it is possible to balance priorities to ensure a strong economy and a healthy environment.

Congressman Kilmer is seated on two key House Appropriations Subcommittees – Interior and the Environment, and Commerce, Justice, State (which oversees NOAA funding).  Congressman Kilmer is powerfully placed to help ensure that critically important environmental and ocean programs get the resources they need and get protected from the ongoing onslaught of anti-environmental policy riders. And, in his spare time, he introduces and supports legislation to address ocean acidification and protect our wild lands and rivers.
