Representative Donna Edwards

Science, Space and Technology; Transportation and Infrastructure

“The Chesapeake Bay is a local and national treasure that must be protected as we nurture it back to health.”

Leadership:  As a member of two influential Committees (Science, Space, and Technology, and Transportation and Infrastructure), Congresswoman Edwards is in a prime position to address threats to our oceans and estuaries. With the Chesapeake Bay plagued by toxic algae and a growing dead zone, she has worked to provide solutions by advocating for the strongest possible Harmful Algal Bloom and Hypoxia Act. Congresswoman Edwards has also pushed hard to address threats posed by offshore oil drilling. Since BP’s devastating oil spill in the Gulf, she has pushed Big Oil on its technology for responding to spills and challenged the industry’s readiness for deep water drilling. She has also established a strong record on sustainable fisheries management, led the fight for legislation that reauthorized the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Restoration Program, and has fought to protect the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act. Congresswoman Edwards has become a leader in the Democratic Party, and is a great representative for her Fourth District citizens.
