Leadership: Congressman LoBiondo maintains a strong commitment to protecting the environment. Throughout his almost two decades in public office, he has worked to protect fragile wildlife and wetlands while preventing dangerous toxic chemicals from being dumped in the Delaware River. He is a champion of three of New Jersey’s environmental treasures, the Cape May National Wildlife Refuge, the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge, and the Supawna Meadows National Wildlife Refuge.

Representative LoBiondo has stood up for projects that will preserve and restore the New Jersey coastline, including sponsoring legislation to prohibit issuance of gas leases on the outer continental shelf off the coast of NJ. He also fought the federal government when they wanted to conduct seismic testing for gas and oil, which includes sonic blasts that would have been highly detrimental to marine life. He has cosponsored legislation that would protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge as well.

He has long been an advocate for clean energy and clean air, and was one of only eight members of his party to vote for the American Clean Energy and Security Act, and one of three to vote against a bill that would strip the EPA of its power to regulate carbon emissions. Congressman LoBiondo has also co-sponsored legislation to establish a national renewable energy standard that would require utilities to purchase increasing amounts of green energy.
