Leadership: Ocean Champions heartily endorses Congressman Joe Crowley. Congressman Crowley has long been a supporter of environmental causes and efforts. His long tenure and leadership position in the House puts him in a key position to do what he does best – make good things happen and bad things not happen. He is a true champion.

Congressman Crowley was first elected to represent New York’s 7th Congressional District, his hometown community, in 1998. The district, spanning across Queens and the Bronx, is one of the nation’s most ethnically diverse areas. The Congressman has cosponsored many bills that support clean water, renewable energy, and the protection of wilderness areas and the Long Island Sound. He recently backed H.R. 1456 to stop shark finning and H.R. 1784 to prevent oil drilling in the Arctic Ocean. Congressman Crowley’s hard work and effective advocacy have made him a standout member in Congress.

Rapidly rising in the Leadership ranks, the Congressmen’s influence is crucial to eliminating the anti-environmental riders that are being attached to appropriations bills and other pieces of moving legislation. He is also a member of the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee.
