Representative Kathy Castor

Key Coastal Communities:
Energy and Commerce

“New oil drilling near the Florida beaches is a threat to jobs and Florida’s economy. We cannot allow oil rigs to be erected within miles of Florida’s beautiful shoreline.”

Leadership: Representative Castor is a proven leader when it comes to environmental protection, clean energy, smart growth management policies, and maintaining a flourishing natural environment. She introduced H.R. 1091 (Save Our Shores Act of 2009) as one of her first acts in the 110th Congress, which targeted the harmful algal blooms impacting fisheries, tourism, and human health. Representative Castor is also an outspoken opponent of new offshore oil drilling, recently introducing H.R. 2002 (Florida Coastal Protection Act) to prohibit oil and gas preleasing, leasing, and related activities off the Florida coast. She is dedicated to creating a clean energy economy in Tampa Bay – focusing on solar energy, which is affordable and plentiful in sunny Florida. She fights for the protection of Florida’s special natural resources.
