Representative Mary Bono Mack


Leadership: Congresswoman Bono Mack is a respected and influential leader in the Republican party.  In 2010 she became the first Republican woman to Chair a Subcommittee, assuming leadership of the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade.  In her rise, she’s shown herself to be a thoughtful, independent voice on the importance of balancing short and long term priorities. She has fought to save critical habitat, passing legislation to establish the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument, which covers 252,000 acres and protects a number of endangered species, and has co-sponsored numerous bills to preserve and restore important natural areas.  She has been a leader in the fight to restore the Salton Sea, which sustains millions of birds, including some endangered species, and she has supported legislation to improve coastal water quality by addressing toxic algae and oceanic dead zones.
