“Natural assets, such as the Hudson River, are vital to our quality of life and local economy. That’s why Nita has fought successfully to improve water quality, protect our watersheds and ensure that our most precious resources are conserved for future generations.”
Leadership: Congresswoman Lowey strongly supports clean energy investments that can spur American industry, address global climate change and reduce our reliance on imported oil. She backed the American Clean Energy and Security Act and she supports all efforts to reduce U.S. consumption of fossil fuels through increased efficiency standards for motor vehicles, cutting emissions from the manufacturing sector, and introducing green building and retrofitting standards. She is an avid supporter of alternative energies including wind, solar, and biofuels, and has supported legislation that invests in these technologies. Additionally, Congresswoman Lowey strongly opposes supporting big oil and has voted against opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, tax breaks for oil companies, and forcing taxpayers to pay for cleaning up contaminants released by big manufacturers.
Nita knows that natural assets, such as the Hudson River, are vital to quality of life and the local economy. She is co-founder of the Hudson River Caucus and author of the Water Pollution Control and Estuary Restoration Act, which provides federal assistance to help clean up critical aquatic habitats. She has fought successfully to improve water quality, protect our watersheds, and ensure that our most precious resources are conserved for future generations.
