Leadership: Congresswoman Gabbard has a record for championing the environment ever since founding the “Healthy Hawaii Coalition” at age 19 to improve human and environmental health throughout the state. Since then, she has worked hard to ensure that Hawaii is a center for the green energy economy, working to provide tax and other incentives to green energy startups to boost the economy while utilizing the islands’ natural resources to garner clean renewable energy. Representative Gabbard also cosponsored the SECURE Water Amendments Act of 2014 and the SMART Grid Study Act of 2013, continuing her focus on developing renewable domestic sources of energy in order to move away from foreign oil.
