“Our coastline and natural environment are renowned. It is our responsibility to preserve the unique communities, scenic views, and open spaces along the Central Coast. I have worked to bring Democrats and Republicans together to preserve huge open spaces for future generations to enjoy.”
Leadership: Congressman Carbajal has long been an advocate for innovative approaches to environmental stewardship and job creation in sustainable energy. He worked to implement a Climate Action Plan for Santa Barbara county that made solar energy an affordable option for homeowners, and received the 2014 Community Environmental Council Environmental Hero Award for opposing new offshore oil development and fighting projects that threatened coastal preservation efforts. Since his election, Congressman Carbajal has worked to address many of our priority issues, including ocean acidification, shark finning, and offshore oil drilling. His first legislative action in Congress was to introduce the California Clean Coast Act, a bill that would permanently prohibit future oil and gas leasing off the coast of California. It would also protect ecosystems and push the transition from fossil fuels to clean energy.
Congressman Carbajal has joined five caucuses that are committed to preserving our environment: the Bipartisan Climate Solutions Caucus, the Climate and Environmental Justice Congressional Taskforce, Congressional Oceans Caucus, Outdoor Recreation Caucus, and Congressional Shellfish Caucus. He believes that our oceans, environment and ecosystems are at higher risk now, more than ever and is committed to protecting them for future generations.
