Leadership: Congresswoman Bonamici is a member of the Science, Space, and Technology Committee, where she holds a leadership position on the Environment Subcommittee.  In Congress, Congresswoman Bonamici has become a leading advocate in addressing climate change and the health of our oceans.

As the Co-Chair of the House Oceans Caucus, Congresswoman Bonamici prioritizes bipartisan solutions to issues affecting our oceans and coastal communities. She successfully introduced and passed into law the Harmful Algal Bloom and Hypoxia Research and Control Act, which improves coordination between local, state, and federal agencies working to identify and mitigate harmful algae bloom events. It also provides funding for research to better understand the threat and work to reduce the frequency of such events. Bonamici has also taken a leading role in ocean acidification mitigation and tsunami warning and debris clean-up efforts.

As Ranking Member of the Environment Subcommittee, Congresswoman Bonamici has been speaking out against attempts to undermine scientists and eliminate efforts to curb climate change. Congresswoman Bonamici believes that the nation’s leadership in fighting global climate change must be bold and unwavering. She spoke out against the withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement and continues to push for new collaborations as an active member of the House Bipartisan Climate Solutions Caucus.
