Ocean Enemies Abound

Apr 09, 2018 in Newsletters

Dear Friend,

OCEAN ENEMIES ABOUND.   Several Members of Congress along the coasts of our nation are attacking the very coast and ocean they should be protecting.

Representative Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA-48) is a typical Ocean Enemy.

He represents a beautiful coastal district.  While he projects an image of being a surfer and in touch with ocean conservation, in fact he supports off-shore oil and gas drilling.  He supports virtually every step taken by the Environmental Protection Administration to roll back ocean, coast and water protections. In a recent debate hosted by Indivisible in Rohrabacher’s district, focused on ocean and environmental issues, he would not acknowledge the invitation or participate.

But, Rohrabacher is not alone.  There are more than a dozen current Members of Congress who betray their districts’ values every day.

They let oil and gas interests continue to hold the Department of Interior captive to their pollution agenda.  They stand by while the Environmental Protection Agency has become the Environmental Pollution Agency. They are dotted around the nation on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, the Great Lakes, as well as the Gulf of Mexico.

Together, with your support, we will stop them.  Ocean Champions is already deep into our election year analysis. Targeting districts where we believe we can defeat Ocean Enemies and elect Ocean Champions.

We have defeated numerous Ocean Enemies and elected Ocean Champions.  Senators Sheldon Whitehouse, Mark Begich and Brian Schatz are among leading Ocean Champions we have supported.  Former Congress Members —– Steve Southerland and Richard Pombo are among the Ocean Enemies we have defeated.

We need your help now, more than ever before.

Please contribute today to help us successfully fight back against this most destructive administration and congress.

Leon Panetta is one of our nation’s greatest public treasures.  A former Member of Congress, former director of the Office of Management and Budget, former chief of staff to President Bill Clinton, former CIA director and defense secretary in the Obama administration.

Perhaps most important to Ocean Champions is his work in Congress to establish the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, and his co-authoring of the Pew Ocean Report.

Take a look and listen to Leon’s thoughts regarding ocean advocacy.
